Santiago Torres

Software Engineer

Fourth-year Computer Engineering student at ITBA, on exchange at Polytechnique Montréal this fall. I build web systems end to end: API design, data modelling, authentication, multi-tenancy, infrastructure and deployment.

I trained first as an avionics technician, so I care about how systems behave outside the code: how they are deployed, how they fail and how they scale. I work best in small, technically strong teams where engineers own the product.

Buenos Aires

Software Engineer, CHYPS

Embedded software company, around 20 people.

  • Working on a local-first management system for industrial vending machines that dispense personal protective equipment in factories. Each machine keeps working offline and syncs with a central server. Around 25 machines run in production, with 80 on order for this year.
  • Started the web backend on my own, a REST API in .NET, and the team grew from there. Built what Entity Framework didn’t support yet, like custom global query filters.
  • Ship features end to end across the four parts of the system: web backend and frontend, machine backend and frontend.
  • Found and fixed a server memory leak through memory profiling. It filled RAM, then disk, until the server went down.
  • Every change reaches machines already in the field, so releases have to stay backward compatible.

Buenos Aires

Co-founder & Software Engineer, Khleos

Ticketing and point-of-sale platform for clubs and events.

  • Powered 10 events, 7 of them sold out, and processed more than ARS 50M in ticket sales.
  • Designed a data model flexible enough for fully custom promotions per client, and for any user to hold several roles at once across different events, each role with its own settings.
  • Built ticket sales, QR validation at the door and referral links for promoters.
  • Integrated Mercado Pago payments, OAuth and webhooks, with multi-tenant administration where platform admins can step into any tenant and manage it directly.
  • Run production on self-managed infrastructure: VPS, Docker and Coolify, Caddy, PostgreSQL with PgBouncer, Redis and monitoring.

Freelance Software Developer, I-BC SRL

Company with a long track record in Argentine agriculture.

  • Built the client platform where farmers check their fields on a map: field polygons, crop types and NDVI vegetation indices computed from satellite imagery.
  • The same map layer also powered the company’s nautical product. I also reverse-engineered a nautical charting program.
  • QGIS
  • PHP

S&S Frames

Photo gallery for HackITBA, ITBA’s three-day hackathon. Sol Medina and I shot the event, then built the platform attendees used to find their own photos: face recognition, full-resolution browsing, bulk ZIP downloads and donations through Mercado Pago. It has drawn 3.64k unique visitors so far.

PinkOS

An operating system written in C and assembly with Luk. It started as a university assignment and grew into a personal project: shell, in-memory file system, multiple processes, permissions, serial communication, and a graphical interface with its own event system, themes and fonts. The architecture is modular, so new features are easy to add.

TimerTick

Time tracker built around areas of focus: you set how many hours each area needs per week, and a deterministic scoring engine ranks them by urgency. Urgency weighs how far behind you are, a priority that grows exponentially rather than linearly, and a boost when the week runs out with hours still left. It also checks whether the whole week still fits in the free time your Google Calendar leaves, and suggests sessions to fill it.

Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires (ITBA)

One of Argentina’s leading private universities for engineering and technology, founded in 1959.

Avionics Technician

E.E.S.T. N.º 7 “Taller Regional Quilmes” (IMPA)

Technical school specializing in aviation, located at the Argentine Air Force’s Quilmes maintenance facility. Training in electronics, communications, instrumentation and aircraft systems.

Outside of work

I’m curious by nature and always have a few side projects going, usually small tools and experiments.

Photography is the hobby I take most seriously. I shoot both digital and film, and I edit and color-grade every photo myself.

Electronics and amateur radio stayed with me from my avionics training. I also play chess.

Get in touch

I’m looking for a full-time or part-time remote role on a team where I can own work from design to production. My working hours overlap with North America. If that sounds like yours, I’d like to hear about it.
